What the grade tells you
SS 304 and SS 316 are different stainless-steel grades. SS 316 contains molybdenum and is often considered when chloride exposure is a concern. That does not mean any installed SS 316 system is corrosion-proof: grade, finish, fitting materials, exposure and upkeep all matter.
Ask about the entire system
A quote describing only the cable as SS 316 does not tell you what grade the end fixings, fasteners or track use. Ask for the cable and fitting specification separately, including any coating, especially if your balcony faces sea air or direct rain.
Choose for your actual site
Describe the location and exposure to the installer. Request the agreed material grade and care guidance in writing, rather than assuming all installations use one grade or that a higher grade eliminates maintenance.
